Gem party!
We filled our gem jar again! We celebrated by watching the Elf on the Shelf movie and eating some yummy cookies! We also watched a cute video that stared the characters from the series "If you give a Mouse a Cookie" books. We had a fun afternoon celebrating our good behavior!

Science Experiment
This week we conducted an experiment with a variety of liquids (including the ones pictured below as well as water) and salt and asked the question " How will the liquid state of matter change?" We wrote a hypothesis, and the materials and procedure needed to conduct the experiment. We let the liquid mixture sit overnight and when we returned to school today, the liquid had turned into a solid! We grew a tree!!

Science Experiment
We are currently writing a lab report with the question, " What will happen when we poke a pencil through a bag full of water?" Most students' hypothesis was that water will squirt out everywhere. Today we conducted the actual experiment and to the students' surprise.....no water leaked out! Ask your student all about it! Tomorrow we will write the results and conclusion to our lab report.

Research Projects
We have been learning all about non fiction books during our reading workshop time this month. This week we started our non fiction research projects. We all have a topic and are practicing how to gather, record and report our findings. Students will make an information poster for their final project. Ask your child what their research topic is!
Pictured below are students gathering information and recording their notes today during reading workshop.

Safa - Student of the Week
Safa was our student of the week this week. Each student will get a turn during the school year to share and tell us all about themselves. Great job, Safa!
Science Experiment
We finished writing another lab report! Yesterday we conducted an experiment to determine if an ice cube would melt quicker all alone, with sugar or with salt. Ask your child about what we found for a result.
